Abstract:
The optical anisotropic material comprises an at least transparent substrate and a layer of liquid-crystalline macromolecule. The macromolecules are monoaxially oriented or twist-oriented having spiral axes in a direction perpendicular to the substrate. The method for manufacturing the optical anisotropic material includes a process of forming at least one layer of a material including liquid crystalline macromolecules on the at least transparent substrate, a process of heating the material to orient the macromolecules, and a process of thereafter cooling it rapidly. The liquid crystal device provided with the optical anisotropic material comprises at least a pair of polarizing plates, a liquid crystal display cell, and at least one layer of an optical anisotropic material including liquid-crystalline macromolecules. The optical anisotropic material is in contact with the liquid crystal display cell via an orientation film. The method for manufacturing the liquid crystal device provided with the optical anisotropic material includes a process of performing an orientation processing of at least the surface not in contact with the liquid crystal display cell, a process of forming at least one layer of the material, a process of thereafter heating the material to orient the macromolecules, and a process of cooling it rapidly.
