Abstract:
Provided are an optical communication system and an optical frequency control method which, even when sufficient band characteristics of an optical reception front-end cannot be ensured, make it possible to suppress degradation of reception characteristics even when the number of optical reception front-ends is made smaller than the number of sub-carrier signals. A reception-side system (10) includes a smaller number of optical reception front-ends (12) than the number of a plurality of sub-carrier signals that have been wavelength-multiplexed. Each of the optical reception front-ends (12) receives two or more sub-carrier signals among the plurality of sub-carrier signals. A frequency offset monitoring unit (22) monitors a frequency offset of each of the sub-carrier signals received by the optical reception front-ends (12). A light source frequency control unit (24), on the basis of the result of monitoring by the frequency offset monitoring unit (22), controls at least one of the light source frequency of a transmission-side system (2) and the light source frequency of the reception-side system (10).
