Abstract:
A terminal device comprises a photodetector (16), an amplitude detection circuit (26), a source of light (22), a driver circuit (24), and a control circuit (28). The photodetector receives a first optical signal. The amplitude detection circuit detects the amplitude of the output from the photodetector. The driver circuit supplies driving current to the source of light so that the source of light may output a second optical signal. The control circuit varies driving current depending on the change in amplitude detected by the amplitude detection circuit. When a network is formed of this terminal device together with another terminal station device, the dynamic range of reception of the other terminal device can be reduced. Therefore, this terminal device improves the extendibility of a network.
