Title:
OPTICAL CONTROL METHOD AND OPTICAL CONTROLLER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1997/030372
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A method of, and an apparatus for, extracting with high reproducibility a photo response having sufficient magnitude and sufficient speed from a photo responsive optical element. Control light is emitted from a light source (1) and signal light is emitted from a light source (2). These control light and signal light are converged by a condenser lens (7) and are applied to an optical device (8) to which a photo responsive composition is packed. Only signal light (22) is detected by an optical detector (22) through a light reception lens (9) and a wavelength selection filter (20). A transmittance and/or refractive index reversibly increases or decreases in accordance with ON/OFF of signal light, and intensity modulation of signal light is accomplished. Because the numerical aperture of the light reception lens is set to be substantially smaller than that of the condenser lens, photo response having sufficient magnitude and sufficient speed can be extracted from the optical device comprising a photo responsive composition containing a pigment.
