Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide: an optical device which has high contrast and high resolution; and a display device which is provided with this optical device. An optical device according to the present invention is provided with: a light guide plate (120); a first deflection means (130) which is arranged on at least one of a first surface and a second surface of the light guide plate (120), and which deflects the light incident on the light guide plate (120) so that the light incident on the light guide plate (120) is totally reflected within the light guide plate (120); and a second deflection means (140) which is arranged on at least one of the first surface and the second surface of the light guide plate (120), and which deflects the light that has propagated within the light guide plate (120) by means of total reflection so that the light that has propagated within the light guide plate (120) by means of total reflection is outputted from the light guide plate (120). The light guide plate (120) is composed of: a substrate (500) which has a first surface and a second surface that is on the reverse side of the first surface; a first planarization film (511) which is formed on the first surface of the substrate (500) and contains an organic material; and a second planarization film (512) which is formed on the second surface of the substrate (500) and contains an organic material. The substrate (500) may be formed of a resin material.
