This optical device (10) comprises a protective cover (12), a cylindrical case (11), and a vibrating body (13). The vibrating body (13) causes the protective cover (12) to vibrate as a result of the selection, from among a plurality of vibration modes by which the protective cover (12) vibrates, of a cleaning mode in which the vibration displacement of the protective cover (12) is at the maximum, and a heating mode that is higher-order and that has a greater node count than the cleaning mode. In the heating mode, the position of the maximum vibration displacement in said vibration mode is within the area of the protective cover (12) corresponding to the field of view of the optical sensor (1).
