Abstract:
An optical device (1) is provided with: a first substrate (10) having light transmitting characteristics; a second substrate (20), which faces the first substrate (10), and has light transmitting characteristics; a light distribution layer (30), which is disposed between the first substrate (10) and the second substrate (20), and which distributes inputted light; and an optical element (40), which is disposed on a second substrate (20) surface on the side opposite to the first substrate (10) side or on a first substrate (10) surface on the side opposite to the second substrate (20) side. The light distribution layer (30) has an optical medium section (31) containing a birefringent material, and an uneven structure section (32), and the optical element (40) has optical characteristics of reducing the light amount of first polarization light and/or second polarization light, said first polarization light and second polarization light respectively having different polarization directions.
