Abstract:
An optical disc capable of performing recording onto an optical disc such as optical disc formatting in a comparatively short time. The optical disc apparatus (1) comprises a rotation drive mechanism for mounting an optical disc (2) and rotating it at a plurality of steps of rotation speed, an optical head (3) arranged movably in the radial direction of the mounted optical disc (2) and applying a laser beam to the optical disc (2) to overwrite information (data), and an optical head moving mechanism having a sled motor for moving the optical head (3) in the radial direction. When the optical disc (2) is a blank disc having no recording history, i.e., at the first recording of the optical disc, recording is performed at a speed higher than the maximum overwrite speed.
