Abstract:
The disclosed playback device (100) has a signal processing unit (115) that, after an operating mode transitions from a playback mode to another mode, performs background playback of a title based on data recorded on a BD. The signal processing unit (115) stores screen information pertaining to each of the following: a mask screen that masks the title playback screen; and a switch prompt screen that provides a prompt to change the BD in the playback device. When the operating mode is set back to the playback mode, the mask screen is outputted if the playback position of the BD has not reached an end position during background playback, and the switch prompt screen is outputted if the playback position has reached the end position during background playback. Using this configuration, when a title comprises a plurality of optical discs and that title is playing on an on-board optical disc playback device while the vehicle is in motion, a user can be notified when the optical disc needs to be switched in order to view the continuation of the title.
