An optical disk polishing device comprising a flange (24) for holding a polishing body (20), e.g. a sand paper, a backup material (21) interposed between the polishing body (20) and the flange (24), a rotary table (12) for holding a body being polished, i.e. an optical disk (10), a mechanism (28) for pressing the polishing body (20) against the optical disc (10) with a specified pressing force required for polishing, and motors (26, 14) for driving the flange (24) and the rotary table (12) rotationally, wherein the amount of deformation of the backup material (21) is set in the range of 0.05−0.3 mm when the specified pressure is applied. The pressing force of the polishing body (20) is thereby applied substantially uniformly over the entire polishing surface of the optical disc (10) and occurrence of surface shear drop is suppressed around the optical disc.
