Abstract:
This optical element device is provided with: a semiconductor optical amplifier (20) having an optical waveguide through which light propagates and incident/emission surfaces for the light; and an optical passive element (30) having an optical waveguide through which light propagates and an incident surface for light opposed to the emission surface of the semiconductor optical amplifier (20), wherein the optical passive element (30) has a recess (33, 33A) in which a slope (34, 36, 37) for reflecting the light emitted to a substrate layer (32) is formed, and the recess (33, 33A) is formed at a position separated from the optical waveguide by a fixed distance.
