Abstract:
Disclosed is an optical element, which has improved light extraction efficiency, and also has a reduced thickness. The optical element (1) is provided with a structural layer (13), which has a plurality of reflecting surfaces (13a) that reflect light toward a light outputting surface (12), said light having been inputted to a light inputting surface (11). Each of the reflecting surfaces (13a) has a first length (h) in the X axis direction, and the reflecting surfaces are arranged at a pitch (p) in the Z axis direction that orthogonally intersects the X axis direction. When the incidence angle of light with respect to the X axis direction is expressed as θ, said light being among the light inputted to the reflecting surfaces (13a) and travelling within the XZ plane, and the number of times of reflection of the light inputted to the reflecting surfaces (13a) is expressed as n, the relationship of h=(2n-1)∙p/tanθ is satisfied at any angle within the range of 6.5°≤θ≤87.5°.
