Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide an optical element that is stable over long periods of time and that is an apodizing filter the optical characteristics of which can be externally controlled. Provided is an optical element 100 that comprises a transparent electrolyte layer 110, a pair of solid-state electrochromic layers which sandwich the transparent electrolyte layer 110, and a pair of transparent conductive films 140 that sandwich the pair of solid state electrochromic layers, wherein: the pair of solid state electrochromic layers is constituted by a pair of a reduction color development-type solid state electrochromic layer 120 and an oxidation color development-type solid state electrochromic layer 130; and the optical element 100 has apodization characteristics such that in a plane perpendicular to the thickness direction of the transparent electrolyte layer 110, light transmissivity gradually increases from the outer circumference towards the center.
