Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing an optical element in which there is minimal wavelength dependence in diffraction of transmitted light, and a light guide element which uses the optical element. As a solution to the above problem, the present invention has: optically anisotropic members including optically anisotropic layers having a liquid crystal alignment pattern in which an optical axis is rotated along one direction; and a wavelength-selective phase difference layer for inversely converting circularly polarized light having a specific wavelength, the wavelength-selective phase difference layer being disposed between two optically anisotropic members; the liquid crystal alignment patterns of the optically anisotropic layers of one optically anisotropic member being alike, the length of one period of one or more optically anisotropic members differing from that of the other optically anisotropic members, where one period is the length of a 180° rotation of the orientation of the optical axis, a liquid crystal compound in the optically anisotropic layers being in a twisted alignment, and at least one optically anisotropic member having two optically anisotropic layers in which the twisted alignments of the liquid crystal compound are mutually reversed.
