Abstract:
An optical element (4) is provided with: a silicon waveguide core (1) that is provided with a taper section (1X) having the cross-sectional size reduced toward the terminal portion thereof; a dielectric waveguide core (2), which is connected to the silicon waveguide core by covering at least the taper section, and which has a refractive index smaller than that of the silicon waveguide core, and which constitutes a single-mode waveguide; and a diffraction grating (3), which is provided in the single-mode waveguide, and which constitutes a distributed Bragg reflector.
