Abstract:
An optical element has a waveguide unit, a polarizing beam splitter membrane, and a deflection unit. The waveguide unit reflects and propagates the light that entered at a predetermined angle between a first and second flat surface. The polarizing beam splitter membrane is adhered to the first flat surface of the waveguide unit. The polarizing beam splitter membrane separates the light entering from the waveguide unit into transmitted light and reflected light. The deflection unit is joined to a first waveguide unit with the polarizing beam splitter membrane therebetween. The deflection unit has a plurality of first reflection surfaces. The first reflection surfaces reflect the light that transmitted through the polarizing beam splitter membrane in a direction that is essentially perpendicular to the surface of the polarizing beam splitter membrane. The polarizing beam splitter membrane reflects most of the light that entered at the predetermined angel from the waveguide unit. The polarizing beam splitter membrane transmits most of or all of the light that essentially entered perpendicularly from the deflection unit.
