Abstract:
An optical fiber base material production method having: a rod insertion step in which a glass rod 14 is inserted into a through-hole 12 that penetrates a cladding glass body 11; a dummy rod integration step in which a solid dummy quartz rod 15 that closes a first opening 12a in the through-hole 12 is integrated with a first end section 11a of the cladding glass body 11; and a tip sealing step in which a second opening 12b in the through-hole 12 that opens to a second end section 11b of the cladding glass body 11 is blocked and an internal hole 18 is formed which is sealed at both ends of the through-hole 12.
