Abstract:
[PROBLEMS] The noise level determined by integrating the unwanted components from the decorrelation position is effectively reduced, thereby the measurement accuracy is improved, and the measurable range is extended. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] Measuring means (33) detects the Brillouin gain of the probe light outputted from an under-test optical fiber (FUT) while sweeping the frequency difference between the pumping light and the probe light, and measures the distribution of the strain in the under-test optical fiber (FUT). The light intensity modulator (4) modulates the intensity of the output light in synchronism with the frequency modulation the light source (1) undergoes. With this, the spectrum distribution with respect to the frequency of the light from the light source (1) can be arbitrarily adjusted, the noise spectrum profile spread along the frequency axis occurring other than the correlation peak position is adjusted, and the peak frequency of the Lorentz spectrum occurring in the correlation peak position can be measured with high accuracy. Further, the measurable range dm can be widened.
