Abstract:
[Problem] To easily connect optical fibers. [Solution] The present invention is an optical fiber connection method that uses a mechanical splicer, the method comprising: a step for preparing a mechanical splicer into one end of which is inserted a dummy fiber; a step for inserting a first optical fiber from the end opposite the side where the dummy fiber is inserted, and abutting an end face of the first optical fiber against the dummy fiber; a step for fixing the first optical fiber to the mechanical splicer; a step for pulling the dummy fiber out of the mechanical splicer after the first optical fiber has been fixed to the mechanical splicer; a step for inserting a second optical fiber from the end on the side where the dummy fiber has been pulled out, and abutting an end face of the second optical fiber against the end face of the first optical fiber; and a step for fixing the second optical fiber to the mechanical splicer.
