Abstract:
Disclosed is an optical fiber in which a primary cover layer and a secondary cover layer are formed on an outer circumference of a bare optical fiber made of a core and a cladding, wherein: the Young's modulus of the primary cover layer is from 0.1 to 1.0 MPa; a relationship between the lateral rigidity D and the flexural rigidity H of the optical fiber as expressed by the formulas satisfies D/H2 ≤ 3×1017N-1m-6; the primary cover layer includes from 0.3 to 2.0 wt% of a photoinitiator including phosphorus; and the primary cover layer includes polypropylene glycol having a weight-average molecular weight from 1000 to 5000. In the formulas, r represents the radius (m), E represents the Young's modulus (Pa), the subscript g represents glass (the bare optical fiber), the subscript p represents the primary cover layer, and the subscript s represents the secondary cover layer.
