Abstract:
An optical fiber mother material producing method comprises the following steps: a pipe holding step for holding a pipe (23) in a suspended state, a rod holding step for holding a rod (27) inserted in the pipe (23), a heating step for progressively axially heating the held pipe (23) and rod (27) by an annular heating furnace (15), an integrating step for progressively axially welding the heated pipe (23) and rod (27) for integration, a detection step for detecting changes in the inclination of the pipe (23) accompanying the progress of integration of the pipe (23) and rod (27), and a correction step for correcting the inclination of the pipe (23) in such a manner as to cancel the detected change in inclination in the midst of integration of the pipe(23) and rod (27).
