Abstract:
The objective of the present invention is to perform remote sensing by enabling installation of an interrogator at a remote location having no communication or power supply infrastructure. In this optical fiber sensing system, obtained by adding an optical fiber sensing function to an optical communication cable system, optical fiber sensing employs an interrogator to send probe light to an optical fiber, and to sense environment information relating to the surroundings of the optical fiber by detecting backscattered light of the probe light. A first sensing device installed at a remote location different from a terminal station of the optical communication cable system is provided with: an interrogator; a power supply unit which receives power via the optical communication cable system and supplies power within the device; and a communication unit which communicates with a second sensing device. The interrogator generates sensing data for each point on an optical fiber connected to the first sensing device by sensing the environment information relating to the surroundings of the optical fiber. The communication unit transmits the sensing data to the second sensing device.
