Abstract:
Provided is an optical fiber, which is provided with: a center core portion; an inner core layer, which is formed on the outer circumference of the center core portion, and which has a refractive index lower than that of the center core portion; an outer core layer, which is formed on the outer circumference of the inner core layer, and which has a refractive index lower than that of the inner core layer; and a cladding portion, which is formed on the outer circumference of the outer core layer, and which has a refractive index substantially equal to that of the inner core layer. The optical fiber has an effective core cross-section area equal to or more than 130 μm2 at a wavelength of 1,550 nm, a bending loss of 100 dB/m or less at a wavelength of 1,550 nm when the fiber with a diameter of 20 mm is bent, and a cable cutoff wavelength of 1,530 nm or less. Consequently, the optical fiber, which transmits light in a communication wavelength band in single mode, and which has the large effective core-cross section area, while suppressing an increase of the bending loss, is provided.
