Abstract:
An optical fiber (10) for minimizing a decline in strength is equipped with a core (11) and a cladding (12) positioned so as to surround the core (11) in a manner such that one section of the core (11) is exposed therefrom. A roughened-surface section is provided to at least part of the outer surface of the exposed section (11a) of the core (11) which is exposed from the cladding (12). The arithmetic mean roughness Ra of the roughened-surface section is at least 0.2 μm, and the average length (Rsm) of a roughness curve element of the roughened-surface section is at least 17 μm.
