Abstract:
An optical fiber (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention is provided with: a core part (1a); and a cladding part (1b) which surrounds the outer periphery of the core part, while having a refractive index that is lower than the maximum refractive index of the core part. The core part comprises: a center core to which germanium is added; and a low refractive index layer which surrounds the outer periphery of the center core, while having a negative -∆max that is the minimum value of the relative refractive index difference with respect to the average refractive index of the cladding part. The residual compressive stress in the center core is from 40 MPa to 150 MPa; and ∆1 that is the average maximum relative refractive index difference of the center core with respect to the average refractive index of the cladding part is 0.8% or less.
