In order to improve light utilization efficiency and provide an optical sheet that can be made thinner, an optical sheet (5) of one embodiment of the present invention is provided with a plurality of first prisms (13), a quarter wave plate (11) and a polarization separation element (12), in that order, from the light incident side to the light exit side. Each first prism (13) has a first surface (13a) where light enters, and a second surface (13b) where the light that has entered is reflected toward the light exit side. Second prisms (14) for reflecting light are provided between first prisms (13) aligned in the in-plane direction.
