Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to obtain: an optical glass that has a refractive index (nd) and an Abbe number (νd) within suitable ranges and has high devitrification resistance; and an optical element. The optical glass contains, on a mass basis, 10.5-50.5% of a B2O3 component, 18.0-60.0% of La2O3 component, 15.0% or less of a ZnO component, and 5.0% or less of a RO component, and has a mass ratio SiO2/B2O3 of 0.5 or less. The use of the B2O3 component, the La2O3 component, and the RO component in combination and mass ratio SiO2/B2O3 within the predetermined range provides an optical glass having an Abbe number (νd) of 40 or more. The optical element contains the optical glass as a base material.
