Optical recording/playback devices which use holograms exhibit problems such as the optical beam from a laser hitting a liquid crystal element and causing the liquid crystal thereof to deteriorate. In addition, when using a mechanical shutter, there is the problem of the mechanical shutter itself having inertia and consequently not being suitable for high-speed operation. This device is an optical-information recording/playback device for recording information onto a recording medium and/or playing back information from the recording medium, and configured so as to be equipped with a laser-beam source for emitting a laser beam, a first light-shielding part capable of switching between transmission and shielding of the laser beam emitted from the laser-beam source, a drive circuit for driving the switching of the transmission or shielding of the first light-shielding part, and a first movement unit for moving the first light-shielding part.
