Abstract:
An optical integrated module in which unguided light substantially inevitable to hybrid optical integration and produced because of the discontinuity of the light waveguide does not influence the optical switching performance. Slant optical waveguide portions at the input/output end faces of an optical waveguide (132) of an optical waveguide device (131) slant in the same direction to a line along the length of an optical waveguide platform (133). Input/output optical waveguides (134, 135) of the optical waveguide platform (133) slant in the same direction in such a way as to correspond to the slant of the optical waveguide (132). Unguided light produced when a signal light is guided from the input optical waveguide (134) to the optical waveguide device (131) is incident on the output optical waveguide (135) at such a large angle that the unguided light misses the effective aperture of the output optical waveguide (135), thereby suppressing the optical coupling of the crosstalk component to the output optical waveguide (135). As a result, while suppressing the degradation of efficiency of coupling to the signal light as much as possible, only the efficiency of coupling of the unguided light can be suppressed selectively and extremely effectively.
