An optical isolator and a control method thereof, relating to the technical field of optics, provided with a first polarising beam splitting apparatus (23, 33, 43), a Faraday optical rotation apparatus (26, 36, 46), and a second polarising beam splitting apparatus (28, 38, 48) arranged along the light path; a half-wave plate (25, 35, 45) being arranged on the light path of the optical isolator and between the first polarising beam splitting apparatus (23, 33, 43) and the second polarising beam splitting apparatus (28, 38, 48); the optical isolator also comprises an angle temperature compensation apparatus (24, 34, 44), the half-wave plate (25, 35, 45) being arranged on the angle temperature compensation apparatus (24, 34, 44), and the angle temperature compensation apparatus (24, 34, 44) making the half-wave plate (25, 35, 45) rotate on the basis of the temperature. By means of the angle and temperature-related compensation apparatus (24, 34, 44), the current temperature is acquired; as temperature has a large effect on the rotation of the Faraday optical rotation apparatus (26, 36, 46) and therefore also has a large effect on the isolation of the isolator, using the compensation apparatus (24, 34, 44) to rotate the half-wave plate (25, 35, 45) and polarise the optical axis of the half-wave plate (25, 35, 45) compensates the temperature effect of the Faraday optical rotation apparatus (25, 36, 46); adaptive adjustment of the operating state is thereby implemented on the basis of temperature, such that the optical isolator can adaptively adjust according to temperature, and maintain a good degree of isolation.
