Provided is a method for manufacturing an optical material that comprises a compound A, a compound B, a compound C, a compound D, and a compound E. Said method is characterized by going from a first step through a fifth step. In the first step, compound B is dissolved in compound A, yielding a first liquid. In the second step, a liquid prepared by homogenously mixing part of compound D with compound E is added to the first liquid obtained in the first step, and the result is homogenously mixed, yielding a second liquid. In the third step, compound C is added to the second liquid obtained in the second step, and the obtained mixture is reacted under reduced pressure, yielding a reacted mixture. In the fourth step, the remainder of compound D left over from the second step is added to the reacted mixture obtained in the third step and homogenously mixed, yielding a resin composition for an optical material. In the fifth step, the resin composition obtained in the fourth step is cast and polymerized, yielding an optical material.
