Abstract:
Provided are: an optical material used in an optical isolator and used in a UV-excited yellow-light emitting material capable of emitting yellow light stably and with high efficiency, even if a large current is passed therethrough to induce the emission of high-intensity light; a production method for the optical material; a light emitting diode which is capable of yellow light emission and white light emission, and which is capable of emitting high-intensity light with high efficiency for extended periods of time; an optical isolator; and an optical processing apparatus. The optical material used in the optical isolator (210) and in the UV-excited yellow light emitting material (2) comprises a Ce-containing oxide, said Ce-containing oxide being a terbium-cerium-aluminium garnet single crystal in which a portion of the terbium of a terbium-aluminium garnet single crystal is substituted by cerium. The ratio of the number of moles of cerium to the total number of moles of terbium and cerium, i.e. the cerium composition ratio, is preferably in the range of 0.01mol%-50mol% inclusive. A portion of the aluminium may be substituted by scandium. A portion of the aluminium or scandium may be substituted by terbium, cerium, yttrium, lutetium, ytterbium, and/or thulium.
