Title:
OPTICAL MODULATOR
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2019/176665
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention provides an optical modulator which has a high frequency path having a wide band and with which a high-frequency electrical signal can be efficiently input to an optically modulated region. High-frequency paths of an optical modulator, that is, an input high-frequency path (A-B), an optical modulation high-frequency path (B-C), and an output high-frequency path (C-D) as illustrated in fig. 1 are characterized in that the input high-frequency path (A-B) and the output high-frequency path (C-D) are each divided into a plurality of segments, and the paths are configured such that adjacent segments have a different characteristic impedance and propagation constant. The input high-frequency path and the output high-frequency path can be actualized by modifying the widths or thicknesses of signal electrodes formed on dielectrics constituting micro-strip lines to be different for adjacent segments. Moreover, the characteristic impedance and propagation constants can also be changed by modifying the dielectric constants of the dielectrics rather than modifying the widths or thicknesses of the signal electrodes.
