Abstract:
The prevent invention provides an optical modulator which enables adjustment of an optimum bias condition even in a dual electrode-type structure. Provided is an optical modulator which includes a semiconductor layer that has a p-n junction in an optical waveguide core and a high-frequency (RF) electrode and a ground electrode that are for applying an RF signal to the semiconductor layer and which modulates an optical signal by applying the RF signal and a bias voltage to the semiconductor layer, said optical modulator comprising a bias electrode that is disposed so as to face the ground electrode in a substrate, wherein the RF electrode and the bias electrode are connected to the semiconductor layer.
