Abstract:

A method and device for polishing an optical part so that the end face of an optical path may protrude from the connecting end face of the optical part by a desired length. The device is provided with a connector holding section (16), a ferrule provision section (15), and an ultrasonic wave generating device (14). The holding section (16) holds an optical connector (1) and a ferrule (3) is provided in the provision section (15) in such a way that the end face (6) of the ferrule (3) is faced to the connecting end face (5) of the optical part through a polishing member (20). The connector (1) is aligned with the ferrule (3) by inserting stepped guide pins (11) into the pin inserting holes (9) and (10) of the connector (1) and ferrule (3), and the ultrasonic wave generating device (14) is driven while the ferrule (3) is pressed against the connector (1). The end face of an optical part is polished so that the connecting end face of an optical fiber (4) may be protruded from the connecting end face (5) of a ferrule (3) by vibrating the ferrule (3) in the direction of the optical axis of the fiber (4).
