Abstract:
Provided are an optical power monitoring device, a method for monitoring optical power and a laser generation device using the optical monitoring device capable of detecting a reduction in the output from a short pulse light source, without generating loss when measuring the amount of light, and without the need for the addition of a new optical device for measuring excitation light output from a seed light source. The optical power monitoring device (50) includes an optical detector (52) arranged on a surface of an optical fiber (40) which receives excitation light output from a short pulse light source (20) and which can cause a non-linear optical effect, said optical detector (52) being arranged on a side surface of the optical fiber (40) other than a connection portion. When the excitation light is incident onto the optical fiber (40), SC light having a wavelength different from that of the excitation light is generated due to the non-linear optical effect of the optical fiber (40), and the optical monitoring device (50) measures the amount of excitation light output from the short pulse light source (20) by measuring the amount of leakage light emitted from the side surface of the optical fiber (40) other than the connection portion, said leakage light being a portion of the excitation light and the SC light.
