Abstract:
Provided is an optical prism assembly which is capable of projecting an image on an image display element as a virtual image into an observer's eyeball by one optical component that is significantly reduced in size and weight and has a high degree of flexibility in shape. The optical prism assembly (1) is characterized to include a prism which is made up of a space filled with a medium of a refractive index greater than one, the space being defined by at least two optical planes (11, 12) which are mutually eccentric with respect to the axial chief ray of an incident ray bundle, wherein the at least two optical planes (11, 12) are rotationally asymmetric; allow five internal reflections within the prism; form an intermediate image within the prism; and finally form the intermediate image outside the prism.
