An optical system (10) for image pickup comprises a first refractive optical system (S1) that is disposed on the object side, and a second refractive optical system (S2) that is disposed on the image surface side, said first refractive optical system and second refractive optical system having an aperture stop (St) therebetween. The first refractive optical system (S1) includes a first lens group (G1) having positive refractive power, a second lens group (G2) having positive refractive power, and a third lens group (G3) having negative refractive power, said first lens group, second lens group, and third lens group being disposed in this order from the object side (11), the second refractive optical system (S2) includes a fourth lens group (G4) having positive refractive power, a fifth lens group (G5) having positive refractive power, and a sixth lens group (G6) having negative refractive power, said fourth lens group, fifth lens group, and sixth lens group being disposed in this order from the object side (11), and at the time of performing focusing from infinity to close range, the second lens group (G2) and the fourth lens group (G4) move to the object side (11).
