Abstract:
The optical system (100A, 100B) in an embodiment of the present disclosures has: a first primary surface to which light radiated from a display panel (30) is incident; a second primary surface that is parallel to the first primary surface; and reflective image-forming elements (11A, 11B) that have two mirror surface elements (14, 15) that are orthogonal to each other and that are normal to the first primary surface. An image displayed on the display surface of the display panel (30) is formed at a position (40) that has plane symmetry, the reflective image-forming elements (11A, 11B) being the plane of symmetry. The optical system further has a transparent substrate (21) disposed at at least one of the first primary surface side and the second primary surface side of the reflective image-forming elements (11A, 11B); first light that is incident to the transparent substrate (21) is linearly polarized light; and the proportion of p-polarized light is high.
