[Problem] To reduce filter penalty caused by narrowing of an optical signal band due to an optical filter having a multiplexing/demultiplexing function in an optical transmission path between transponders. [Solution] An optical transmission system 10A in which transponder units 21a to 21n, 22a to 22n are disposed via an optical fiber 14 with optical filters having an optical signal multiplexing/demultiplexing function interposed therebetween, and are provided with a transmission unit 22 for transmitting to the optical fiber 14 an optical signal obtained by modulating laser light from a laser light source 34 with an electric signal from a communication device, and a reception unit 23 for receiving the optical signal from the optical fiber 14 and converting the optical signal into an electric signal. The reception unit 23 is provided with a BER measurement unit which measures a BER from the received signal and feeds the BER back to the transmission side. The transmission unit 22 is provided with a frequency shift control unit which performs frequency shift control for aligning the central frequency of the laser light with the central frequency of the received optical signal so that the BER that is fed back is minimized.
