Abstract:
This optical transmission system is provided with an optical transmitter and an optical receiver. The optical transmitter is provided with: a signal encoding unit that performs nonlinear trellis encoding on a symbol sequence, the nonlinear trellis encoding corresponding to nonlinear calculation; and a modulator that modulates the symbol sequence encoded by the signal encoding unit and transmits the modulated symbol sequence to the optical receiver. The optical receiver is provided with: a light-receiving unit that receives an optical signal transmitted from the optical transmitter and converts the received optical signal to an electric signal; and a digital signal processing unit that reconstructs the symbol sequence by performing a digital signal process on the electric signal.
