Abstract:
This optical transmission system is provided with an optical transmitter and an optical receiver. The optical transmitter is provided with: a signal encoding unit that performs nonlinear block encoding on an M (M is an integer of 1 or greater) value symbol sequence or bit sequence inputted as data information so as to generate an L (L is an integer of 2 or greater, but L>M) value symbol sequence corresponding one to one to the M value symbol sequence or bit sequence; a digital-to-analog conversion unit that converts the generated L value symbol sequence to an analog signal; and a modulator that performs modulation on the basis of the analog signal so as to generate an optically modulated signal. The optical receiver is provided with: a light-receiving unit that receives the optically modulated signal transmitted from the optical transmitter and converts the received optically modulated signal to an electric signal; and a signal decoding unit that subjects the electric signal to a process opposite to the process by the signal encoding unit so as to reconstruct the M value symbol sequence or bit sequence.
