Title:
OPTICAL TRANSMITTER AND TRANSMITTING METHOD FOR TRANSMITTING CRYPTOGRAM
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2006/104090
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Dynamic range of intensity modulation is set as maximum intensity Smax to minimum intensity Smin. Difference &Dgr (=Smax-Smin) between the maximum intensity Smax and the minimum intensity Smin is divided by the number of multilevel signals 2M. Consequently, the distance (difference of intensity) becomes [&Dgr /2M]. The number of multilevel signals 2M is selected such that the distance [&Dgr /2M] between adjacent signals (between intensity Si and intensity Si+1) is buried sufficiently in the width of quantum fluctuation at the time of heterodyne measurement or the width of fluctuation in quantum shop noise at the time of direct detection. Each ground in a ground group is arranged at each intensity signal with the difference between high intensity and low intensity set at a constant level of up to [&Dgr /2], i.e. the middle point intensity. Arrangement is designed such that an intensity signal for transmitting logical value “1” of transmission data and an intensity signal for transmitting logical value “0” are inverted between adjacent grounds.
