Abstract:
An optical transmitter with reduced processing load in multilevel modulation. The optical transmitter converts an input data series, which is an inputted electric signal, and outputs an optical multilevel signal, said optical transmitter provided with: an LUT (2) which stores data for executing optical multilevel modulation and outputs first modulated data and second modulated data based on the input data series; a DAC (5a) which converts the first modulated data from digital to analog and generates a first multilevel signal; a DAC (5b) which converts the second modulated data from digital to analog and generates a second multilevel signal; and a dual-drive MZ modulator (8) which includes a first phase modulator (8a) modulating light from a light source (7) according to the first multilevel signal and a second phase modulator (8b) modulating light from the light source according to the second multilevel signal, and combines the light signal from the first phase modulator (8a) and the light signal from the second phase modulator (8b) to output a multilevel optical signal.
