Abstract:
Provided is an optical waveguide, which comprises a substrate (11), a first material being used for the substrate; a ridge (12) provided on a surface (111) of the substrate (11), a second material being used for the ridge (12), the refractive index of the first material being less than that of the second material; and a slit waveguide (13) provided inside the ridge (12), wherein the slit waveguide (13) comprises at least one vertical slit and at least one horizontal slit, a third material is used for the vertical slit, a fourth material is used for the horizontal slit, the refractive index of the third material is less than that of the second material, the refractive index of the fourth material is less than that of the second material, the vertical slit is perpendicular to the surface (111) of the substrate, and the horizontal slit is parallel to the surface (111) of the substrate. By providing at least one vertical slit and at least one horizontal slit inside the ridge (12) of the optical waveguide, and confining light in the slits by means of the refractivity difference between the optical waveguide materials, the limitation of the polarization state of an input light by the slit waveguide (13) can be avoided, and the extra loss of the input light can be reduced.
