Abstract:
Provided is a liquid crystal medium which has stabilities to heat, light and so on, a wide liquid crystal phase temperature range, a large refractive index anisotropy, and a large dielectric anisotropy and which exhibits an optically isotropic liquid crystal phase. A liquid crystal composition which comprises, as the first component, an achiral component (T) containing at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by formula (1) [wherein R1 is C1-20 alkyl or the like; L1, L2, L3, L4, L5 and L6 are each independently hydrogen or fluorine; and X1 is halogen or the like], and contains a chiral agent, and which is characterized by exhibiting an optically isotropic liquid crystal phase.
