Abstract:
The invention relates to an optically variable element having a planar motif region (3) having a first motif (4), which contains a plurality of substructures (8) extending over the entire first motif (4) and each having bright and dark partial regions arranged alternately, wherein each substructure (8), upon variation of a first viewing angle (αx) - lying in a first plane - relative to a predetermined illumination direction (P1), is visible only at exactly one of the first viewing angles (αx) and all of the first viewing angles (αx) are different, with the result that the first motif (4) with the corresponding substructure (8) is perceptible in a manner dependent on the first viewing angle (αx).
