This organic EL display device comprises: a substrate provided with a first electrode; an organic layer formed by an organic material vapor-deposited over the first electrode so as to form a plurality of pixels aligned into a matrix form; and a second electrode formed over the organic layer. Each of the plurality of pixels has at least three sub-pixels each having an approximately rectangular shape. Among the at least three sub-pixels, a first sub-pixel and a second sub-pixel lay parallel to each another with the respective long sides thereof being approximately parallel to each another. A third sub-pixel among the at least three sub-pixels is formed such that the long side thereof is approximately parallel to the short sides of the first and second sub-pixels. In the first and second sub-pixels, variation in the organic layer film thickness along the long-side direction is greater than the variation in the organic layer film thickness along the short-side direction, whereas in the third sub-pixel, variation in the organic layer film thickness along the short-side direction is greater than the variation in the organic layer film thickness along the long-side direction.
