Abstract:
This organic EL element is provided with a substrate, a first electrode that is formed on one surface of the substrate, a second electrode that faces the first electrode, and an organic EL layer that is interposed between the first electrode and the second electrode. The organic EL element is a top emission organic EL element wherein the second electrode is a transparent electrode and the first electrode is a reflective electrode. The first electrode has a plurality of nanometer-sized columnar structures (columnar structures on the order of nanometers) formed on the above-mentioned one surface of the substrate, and the outermost surface of each columnar structure is a metal surface.
