Abstract:

Disclosed is an organic EL element (1) wherein two light-emitting layers (5) and (7) are arranged between a positive electrode (3) and a negative electrode (9), with a hole-transporting non-luminescent layer (6) being interposed between the two light-emitting layers (5) and (7). The light-emitting layer (5) on the positive electrode side is a hole-transporting light-emitting layer, and the light-emitting layer (7) on the negative electrode side is an electron-transporting light-emitting layer. The non-luminescent layer (6) contains at least one energy transfer assistant material in the hole-transporting material. In the organic EL element (1), the light-emitting layers (5) and (7) have improved luminous efficiencies, since the energy transfer assistant material efficiently transfers the excitation energy within the non-luminescent layer (6) to the light-emitting layers (5) and (7) which are arranged adjacent to the non-luminescent layer (6). In addition, since holes do not easily reach an electron-transporting layer (8), the electron-transporting layer (8) is not deteriorated and thus the organic EL element (1) has a long life.
